Who we are and who is responsible
ABA Therapy Mississauga ("we", "us", "our") provides BCBA-led applied behaviour analysis (ABA) for children and families in Mississauga, Peel Region and across Ontario. Our services include in-home ABA therapy, ABA therapy at daycare, early intervention, child autism assessments, virtual autism therapy and parent coaching.
This policy applies to this website (abatherapymississauga.ca), to enquiries made through it, and to the personal information we handle when you contact us or become a client. When we provide health care, we are responsible for the personal health information we collect, and our team is bound by confidentiality and by the privacy rules of our regulated professionals.
Privacy contact: care@abatherapymississauga.ca. Please put "Privacy" in the subject line so your message reaches the right person quickly.
What information we collect
We collect personal information in three ways: what you give us, what we create while providing services, and basic technical data from your visit.
Through the consultation and contact form
- Your name (parent or guardian), phone number and email address.
- Your child's age range and the service you are interested in.
- Anything you choose to write in the message box, such as your child's strengths, communication style or goals.
When you become a client
- Information needed to assess and support your child, such as developmental and behavioural history, assessment results, goals, session notes and progress data.
- Information from other professionals, schools or daycares when you ask us to coordinate with them.
- Funding and billing details, for example information related to the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) or private insurance, when we help you use them.
Technical information
Like most websites, our web host records standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and the date and time of the visit. We use it to keep the site secure and working properly.
Please do not send urgent, crisis or emergency information through the website form. It is not monitored around the clock.
How and why we use your information
- To reply to your enquiry and book a free consultation.
- To recommend the right ABA services for your child, including in-home, daycare, virtual or hybrid support.
- To carry out assessments, build individualized programs, track progress and communicate with you as part of your child's care.
- To explain and use funding options such as the Ontario Autism Program and private insurance, where you ask us to.
- To keep records, meet legal, regulatory and professional obligations, and protect the safety of children and staff.
- To maintain, secure and improve our website.
We do not sell personal information, we do not rent it, and we do not use your child's information for advertising or marketing to others.
Consent and information about children
We collect, use and share personal information with your knowledge and consent, which may be express (for example, you tick a box or sign a form) or implied by the circumstances (for example, you ask us to call you back and give us your number), unless the law allows or requires otherwise.
Our website is meant for parents, guardians and caregivers. Children should not submit information through it. When a parent or guardian gives us information about a child, they confirm they have the authority to do so. You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits, by contacting us. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer offer some services.
Virtual ABA sessions and secure video
Our virtual ABA therapy runs over a secure video platform. Sessions are not recorded unless you agree in writing, and recordings, if any, are used only for the purpose you approve. We ask families to join from a private space where possible, and we will explain our privacy practices for online care during your free consultation.
Cookies, analytics and third-party services
Our website does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. To display the site we load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and your IP address is shared with Google for that purpose. Our host and email systems also process the data needed to deliver pages and your messages.
Some links take you to other sites, such as Ontario.ca, the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario or our Google Business Profile. Those sites have their own privacy practices. If we add analytics or other tools that use cookies, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only when it is needed and permitted:
- Within our clinical team, on a need-to-know basis, to provide your child's care.
- With service providers who help us run the business, such as website hosting, email and scheduling or secure video tools, under confidentiality and security obligations.
- With schools, daycares, doctors, funding bodies or other professionals, when you ask us to or give consent.
- With regulators, courts or authorities when the law requires it, or to prevent serious harm to a child or another person.
If a service provider handles information outside Canada, we require comparable protection, and the information may be accessible to authorities under the laws of that country.
How we protect and how long we keep information
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards that fit the sensitivity of the information, including access limits, secure systems and confidentiality commitments for our team. No online system is perfectly secure, so please avoid putting highly sensitive details in the website form. We can discuss safer ways to share them.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy and as required by law and professional standards. Enquiries that do not lead to services are kept only as long as needed to respond and are then securely deleted or made anonymous. Client records are kept for the period required by law and the standards of our regulated professionals, then securely destroyed.
Your privacy rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you or your child and give you a copy.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Stop using or sharing information, or withdraw a consent you gave us.
- Explain how we handle your information.
Email care@abatherapymississauga.ca with your request. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within the time the law allows, generally within 30 days. In limited cases the law allows or requires us to refuse part of a request, and we will explain why.
Privacy laws and how to make a complaint
Personal health information is protected in Ontario by the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA). Federal privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), may also apply to some information we handle in the course of our business.
If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario about health information, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada about personal information handled in commercial activity. Questions about a behaviour analyst's professional conduct can go to the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and you can check a clinician's registration on its public register.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services, technology or the law change. The "last updated" date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will highlight it on this page or tell you directly.
